Why Mindful Eating?
Consuming food and drink is a large part of our living experience. It is connected to our sense of pleasure, our social gatherings and entertainment, and can be a creative outlet or hobby as well.
But oftentimes the act of eating and drinking itself is a mindless one. There is a hurried sense about it that isn't even recognized. There is no relationship with the nourishment. The digestion process can be labored.
Mindful Eating is a practice focused on how we experience the consumption of food and drink.
Mindful Eating Is About...
- Creating awareness during the process of eating and drinking
- Developing an entirely different relationship with food and drink
- Learning to listen to your body
It Is NOT About...
- Making yourself eat certain things
- Weight or weight loss
- Restricting your diet
- Counting anything
My Experience Before Practicing Mindful Eating
- I ate like I was ravenous, consuming large amounts of food in a very short amount of time. I ate and drank way more than I needed to, simply because I ate and drank so quickly. I ate like I was in a rush, even when I wasn't.
- I loved eating and enjoyed it, but my practice of eating was mindless. I didnât think about the food, just the enjoyment of consuming it.
- I usually felt uncomfortable and over-full after eating, and digesting took a long time, especially in the evening.
Â
The Results IÂ Experienced from Practicing Mindful Eating
- I no longer rush when I eat and I enjoy food on a deeper level. I'm calmer and less stressed overall throughout the day, even if the only time I practice mindfulness is during eating.
- I reduced the amount of food I was eating without ever feeling hungry or deprived.
- I developed a completely different relationship with food - IÂ no longer use it as an answer to all emotions.
- My caffeine intake was reduced by 2/3 and I felt LESS tired than before - I no longer have afternoon fatigue.
- My alcohol consumption decreased without feeling like I was âmissing outâ or like it was needed to relax.
- My digestive system is no longer stressed. I never feel overly full or bloated.
