Why Manifestation Doesn’t Work
The word Manifestation has gotten thrown around a lot in the past 20 years or so, especially after the documentary The Secret was released and the Law of Attraction became a popular term among those who saw the flow of life being more than just coincidence, happenstance, or hard work. People became excited about the potential of there being some sort of energetic, thought-based way of calling in their desires.
And of course, wherever there is interest and excitement, there is MARKETING…
A slew of courses, books, seminars, and coaching filled people with empty promises of being able to get exactly what they wanted if they just purchased the product and followed the plan. And while many of these contained really helpful and legitimate ideas, a lot of them were just fluff.
If you’ve been interested at all in manifestation or achieving your goals or living your dream life, you’ve probably heard all the usual advice, like:
“You just have to think positively”
“If you build it, they will come…”
“Just focus on the end goal and the rest will work itself out”
“Say these affirmations…”
“You have to fight for what you want!”
“Just read this book/take this course…”
“Create a vision board!”
“Just open yourself to receiving”
“Keep focusing on what you want over and over and over again…”
Perhaps you’ve tried these things and more. So it makes sense that you might feel frustrated hearing people say they manifested their dreams or created their dream life if you’ve tried some of these ideas and you don’t feel like you’ve moved the needle, or you’re just not getting what you want.
When you see people having high levels of success you may feel jealous or bitter or even suspicious of them, because while you want that too, it’s just not happening for you. You begin to assume they must have some kind of unfair advantage, and *that’s* how they managed to get ahead.
And of course, it’s true that in some cases, what you are told are the results of manifestation are not real, which doesn’t help. Many people do have wonderful, authentic success stories. Then there are the opportunists who are only interested in making money… That woman is not traveling the world in luxury due to manifesting it, that guy doesn’t own that Lambo and is on his last dime, and that million-dollar influencer lives in an apartment where she can only record at certain hours due to the constant appearances of lawnmowers, leaf blowing, and garbage trucks…
So if you’ve become cynical or jaded due to inauthentic marketing or your own lack of results, perhaps the logical reasoning would be that manifestation doesn’t work. It’s just a brilliant marketing ploy designed to sell hope to gullible dreamers destined to suffer in their endless cycle of wishing and wanting with little to show for it…
Or is it?
As someone who has always been fascinated with metaphysics, energy, and science, I became curious as to why some people seem to have things line up for them without a lot of effort, and others work earnestly and still struggle consistently.
Let me point out that the concept of manifestation doesn’t hold any particular religious
connotation. It doesn’t have anything to do with any form of religion, nor is it against any form of religion. I know plenty of agnostics and atheists who are living incredible lives and many religious, faith-based people who struggle, and vice-versa, of course. So, whatever your religious or spiritual beliefs are or aren’t, it’s all ok.
What Is Manifestation?
First, let’s just identify what manifestation is. In the simplest terms manifestation, in this sense, means for something to materialize, or appear, or become perceptible to the senses. Something theoretical made real.
We see this all the time. Let’s say you bang your arm on something, and you manifest a bruise. You felt pain but the bruise was not there in the beginning. It appeared later as a result of the action or incident. In this case, a physical action was the catalyst for a physical materialization or manifestation. So manifestation, in and of itself as a concept, is real.
Second, we have to acknowledge that everything is made of energy. This is just a scientific fact. It doesn’t matter if it’s a solid, liquid, or gas. It doesn’t matter if you can see it or not. Light is energy. Matter can be made into energy, and energy can be made into matter. We are constantly exchanging atoms with everything. That phone you’re holding is exchanging atoms with you. So congratulations, you’re part phone, and it’s part you.
Electricity is energy. And since your thoughts are little electrical exchanges in the brain, your thoughts have energy associated with them as well. This is important: Your thoughts have an energetic charge. So thoughts are a form of energy.
Now, before the physicists get in here and get all upset about the next part, let’s be clear: “positive and negative energy” for most of us and in the way we will talk about it are terms used by us to describe our emotional association to energy, not the actual atomic positive and negative charge of the energy itself. Science really hasn’t figured that out yet when it comes to emotion, so don’t get too caught up in this.
All you need to acknowledge is that an energy exchange of some sort happens when we think and feel, and there is a certain kind of energy that radiates out from you based on whether those thoughts are feelings are emotionally positive or negative.
You already know this is true. Ever been around a person who is in a really negative mood? Then you know how this works. The emotional energy radiating from them can affect you in a way that doesn’t feel good, significantly so if you have a high level of empathy or sensitivity. Of course, this is also true for people whose energy comes from an inspiring joy or an incredible zest for life - that radiating energy can affect us in a way that feels good.
So, your thoughts and your emotions have the ability to affect things, both internally and externally. And when you aren’t being mindful of this, it’s easy to let the brain run wild, thinking and feeling whatever it wants!
This brings us to focus. The people who were able to manifest what they wanted seemed to have a very high level of thought focus. This requires self-command of the mind, which is something that takes practice.
Here, we’ll look at why you haven’t been able to manifest what you want.
Why You Haven’t Been Able to Manifest What You Want
If you have tried manifesting your dreams and desires and it’s not working for you, it’s for one of three reasons:
You are not doing the right work.
By this I mean that you are trying one of those things you’ve heard, like saying some sort of mantra, or making a vision board, or thinking about what you want a lot - but there’s no strategy, technique, or substance or depth to it.
You are not working through all of the necessary steps.
There is nothing wrong with belief statements, or a vision board, or focusing on what you want - those are all great! But there are certain steps you need to go through to activate and align with those things, and that’s where most people go wrong. They start with the manifesting activities when most of what you need to do happens BEFORE you even get to that. And I’m going to tell you exactly what those steps are in a moment.
You don’t believe in what you’re saying or don’t believe what you want is possible for you.
If this is the case for you, then you are working against yourself completely. Don’t give up, though. This is actually the case for a lot of people and they don’t even know it, and one of the steps I’m going to share with you covers this. So hang in there.
And if you’re to the point where you feel like the whole concept is just BS, then maybe just hang out for the sake of curiosity and see what you think by the time I’m done. Perhaps it’s just the word and how it’s been presented to you in the past that’s creating resistance for you, and you can decide if that’s still the case for you at the end or not.
Regardless of which of these is the reason you’re not seeing your dreams and goals come to fruition, there’s something you can do about it. Through extensive research on this and implementing it in my own life and in my coaching, I’ve developed 8 crucial steps that I call the Transformation Method, of which Manifestation is Step 6. You’ll learn why you can’t just start with manifestation, which is what most people try, and that’s why it doesn’t work.
